Galena is a mineral and the primary ore of lead. It has a metallic luster and a distinctive silver-gray color. Galena crystallizes in the cubic crystal system, often forming cubes and octahedra. It has a high density due to its lead content and a Mohs hardness of 2.5, making it relatively soft. Galena is not only important for lead extraction but also often contains silver, making it a valuable source of this precious metal.
