Baby Stegodon Tooth-Indonesia
Taxa: Stegodon sp.

Stegodon is an extinct genus of proboscidean, related to modern elephants and mammoths, that lived from the Miocene to the Pleistocene epochs (approximately 11.6 million to 11,000 years ago). These large mammals were characterized by long, straight tusks and a relatively short trunk. Stegodon fossils have been found primarily in Asia, including China, India, and Southeast Asia. They are believed to have inhabited forested environments and grasslands. Stegodon species varied in size, with some being comparable to modern elephants, while others were smaller, indicating a diversity adapted to different ecological niches.
